The Eastside Elementary Jazz EnsembleMay

From the Central Kitsap School District and led by Jeremy Faxon, the ensemble is comprised of 56 fifth and sixth grade students as well as 7 Junior High section coaches. The ensemble studies the art of jazz as well as improvisation. They perform annually at school district band concerts and events, local elementary schools and the North Thurston Jazz Festival. The ensemble is now in its third year and is one of a handful of such programs in the state.

Shannon Nakaya (a graduating senior) and Alanna Vidal (a junior) are State Honorable Mention Winners in the 2010 State Solo & Ensemble Competition held at Central Washington University Last April. The girls received all “superior” scores at the State contest. The girls have been performing together for years.
