Tomato growers, get ready for the Poulsbo Farmers Market Annual Tomato Taste-Off to be held on September 10th, 2011. Special thanks to Valley Nursery for their generous sponsorship of this event!

Summary

The Tomato Taste-Off (TTO) is open to backyard and professional growers in three categories:

• Cooking/Canning Tomatoes
  Examples: Roma, Black Plum, Purple Russian, Florida Pink, San Marzano
• Cherry/Pear Tomatoes
  Examples: Black Cherry, Oregon Cherry, Sun Gold, Yellow Pear
  
• Slicing/Salad Tomatoes
  Examples: Black Krim, Brandywine, Mayan Gold, Mortgage Lifter, Zebra

There is no fee to enter the contest, no need to pre- register and no limit to the number of entries per person. Just show up and submit your tomatoes along with your completed TTO Entry Form (one per variety entered) between 9am and 10:30am. The forms are available via the above link, or at the TTO booth on the day of the competition. The winners will be announced at 12:00 noon the same day.

Awards and Prizes

Prizes will be awarded! Grand Prize or "Best of TTO" will receive a fabulous Poulsbo Farmers Market Bounty Basket. First Prize winners in each category will also receive a lovely prize.

Contest Entry Requirements

Contestants must submit the following per variety entered:

• Cooking/Canning Tomatoes: 3-4 tomatoes
• Cherry/Pear Tomatoes: 6-8 tomatoes
• Slicing/Salad Tomatoes: 2 large slicing tomatoes or 3-4 salad size tomatoes
