Tomato growers get ready for the Poulsbo Farmers Market 5th Annual Tomato Taste Off to be held on Saturday, September 13th. This year's event will be even more exciting as we will plan to announce the winner of our new Tomato Salsa Recipe Contest on the same day.

Summary

The Tomato Taste Off is open to both hobby and professional growers in three categories:

• Cooking/Canning Tomatoes
  Examples: Roma, Black Plum, Purple Russian, Florida Pink, San Marazano.
• Cherry/Pear Tomatoes
  Examples: Sun Gold, Yellow & Red Tear Drop, American Cherry, Yellow Pear.
  
• Slicing/Salad Tomatoes
  Examples: Celebrity Red, Brandywine, Mayan Gold, Mortgage Lifter, Zebra.

There is no fee to enter the contest, no limit to the number of entries per person, and no need to pre-register. Just show up on September 13th and submit your tomatoes along with a completed PFM Tomato Taste Off Entry Form per variety entered between 9 and 10am. The winners will be announced at 12:00 noon on the same day.

Awards and Prizes

Prizes will be awarded! Grand Prize or "best of show" will receive a fabulous Bounty Basket from our sponsors: Kitchen Karousel and Marina Market. First Prize winners in each category will also receive a prize.

Contest Entry Requirements

Contestants must submit the following per variety entered:

• Cooking/Canning Tomatoes: 3-4 tomatoes
• Cherry/Pear Tomatoes: 6-8 tomatoes
• Slicing/Salad Tomatoes: 2 large slicing tomatoes and/or 3-4 salad size tomatoes
