Staff & Board of Directors 2010

The Poulsbo Farmers Market wouldn't be possible without the hard work and dedication of our Market Staff, the Board of Directors, and our volunteers.

Market Manager – Brian Simmons

Brian is a recent Kitsap transplant, having moved here in spring of 2009 to apprentice at Persephone Farm in Indianola. He has vended at the Bainbridge Island Farmers Market and worked for Sound Food as the Ferry Farm stand manager at the Winslow ferry terminal on Bainbridge. He is a novice farmer committed to developing a local, sustainable, organic food system. Last year he farmed at the Morales Farm on Bainbridge Island. This year he is managing some leased land in Poulsbo, complete with greenhouse; his first. He is currently a member of the Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society and an occasional attendee at Kitsap Community & Agricultural Alliance meetings.

Brian graduated from Northern Illinois University where he majored in Organizational Management, as well as minored in Political Science. He is an avid outdoorsman, adventuring whenever and wherever he can, be it on foot, ski or bike. Brian appreciates the opportunity to work with the PFM as the Market Manager and hopes to have a very successful first year.

Market Assistant - Kate Cummings

Kate Cummings is a long-time Kitsap resident and recent University of St. Andrews, Scotland, graduate with a passion for sustainable lifestyles and community involvement. Her interest in farmers markets stems from a belief that local food is critically important to creating a food system that is environmentally friendly, economically sound, and socially beneficial to smaller communities like Poulsbo. The choices – and the sources – for the food we eat are an important part of our lives, and Kate is dedicated to bringing to others the same passion that she has for quality local food.

In addition to the Poulsbo Farmers Market, Kate currently works as a volunteer with the Kitsap Food Chain Project, an initiative set up by the Kitsap Board of County Commissioners to encourage a local, sustainable food community in our county at all levels of the food system. Kate is also a leading member and dog hander in Kitsap Explorer Search and Rescue, a local unit that searches for lost people in wilderness and urban environments, and assists law enforcement in locating police evidence. Her interests include writing, hiking, and being trained by her search dog Gibbs.

I have lived in the Nordic Poulsbo community for the last 16 years, and enjoy the quaintness it offers to the people that live and visit here. I have been in sales and marketing management for the last 20 years representing the Western U. S., Western Canada, and Alaska. I have a varied background in product development, product launches, and implementation of the market plans to the end users. I have also built and maintained an account base of 50 accounts. I was responsible for training 300 salespeople, and maintaining long term profitability for those accounts.

I look forward to serving on the Poulsbo Farmers Market board, so that I can continue to watch the tremendous growth that is increasing every year by the popularity and exposure received by the Market.
