Staff & Board of Directors

The Poulsbo Farmers Market wouldn't be possible without the hard work and dedication of our Market Staff, the Board of Directors, and our volunteers.

Market Manager – Jackie Aitchison

Jackie Aitchison became involved with the Poulsbo Farmers Market after serving 12 years as a City of Poulsbo Council Member. She has served as Market Manager since the market began in 2004.

Knowing where her food comes from and being able to purchase the freshest produce in town is very important to Jackie. She believes that the economic value and the open space conservation that our local farms bring to consumers is critical to sustaining and building our community; the Poulsbo Farmers Market is a great venue for this interaction. In her role as a Market Manager, Jackie is able to support the continued viability of our local farms.

Jackie is also involved with the WSU Mastergardener program, represents the North Kitsap Community on the Kitsap Regional Library Board of Trustees, and she is also the Director of the Washington State Farmers Market Association.

Jackie represents farmers markets on the WA State Small Farms Advisory Council, a governor appointed position. This Council advises the WA State Department of Agriculture and the WA State University Smalls Farms Program. She also represents farmers markets on the Farmers Market Action Team, which works with farmers markets to address the many challenges they face.

Market Assistant - Michele Gilles

Michele is a fledgling farmer who is passionate about local farms and local food. After being diagnosed with an allergy to wheat and resulting sensitivity to gluten, she began her journey to explore how food is produced, processed and marketed in this country. Not only is she a dedicated Farmers Market shopper and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) subscriber, but her own vegetable garden continues to expand at an alarming rate. In addition to the garden, Michele and her partner, Stuart, raise pastured, free range, heritage breed chickens and turkeys on their farm.

Michele is involved in the community as a Kitsap County Master Gardener Volunteer Educator, as a member of the Kitsap Community and Agricultural Alliance (KCAA), and as a founding member of the Kitsap Poultry Growers Cooperative (KPGC). You may also find Michele working behind the reference desk at the Kitsap Regional Library branches in Silverdale and East Bremerton. Michele's professional background includes stints in the software, e-commerce and biotechnology industries.

I have lived in the Nordic Poulsbo community for the last 16 years, and enjoy the quaintness it offers to the people that live and visit here. I have been in sales and marketing management for the last 20 years representing the Western U. S., Western Canada, and Alaska. I have a varied background in product development, product launches, and implementation of the market plans to the end users. I have also built and maintained an account base of 50 accounts. I was responsible for training 300 salespeople, and maintaining long term profitability for those accounts.

I look forward to serving on the Poulsbo Farmers Market board, so that I can continue to watch the tremendous growth that is increasing every year by the popularity and exposure received by the Market.
